Wind-Blown Sand on Railways
Wind-blown sand poses a significant operational challenge in arid environments, as aeolian transport deposits sand directly onto railway tracks. The risk escalates substantially in critical track zones, particularly switches and crossings. These accumulations compromise ballast elasticity, disrupt train operations, and strain regular maintenance schedules.

Computer Vision in Railway Infrastructure Environments
Computer vision enables automated object detection, defect identification, and crowd monitoring across rail networks. Applied extensively within automated inspection regimes, level-crossing surveillance, and station management, recent advancements in deep learning now allow accurate, image-based fault detection directly from static imagery and high-speed sensor feeds.
This research was conducted independently in the year 2019.
